Deckle is a small mill making cotton-rag notebooks, pads and inks — sheets pulled one at a time on a brass mould, edges left ragged where the pulp seeped under the frame. Slow to make. Slower to fill. That’s the point.

A sheet of ours starts as cotton rag — offcuts from a shirt-maker two towns over — beaten to pulp in a Hollander my grandfather bought in 1962 and never once called by anything but “the beater.” The vatman dips the mould, gives it the shake that locks the fibres, and lifts out one sheet. Then he does it again, two hundred more times, and calls it a morning.
The deckle is the loose frame that sits on the mould and holds the pulp in. It never holds perfectly — a little always seeps beneath the wood, and that seep dries into the ragged edge we’re named for. A deckle edge isn’t a finish we add. It’s the evidence we couldn’t remove.
After pressing, the sheets hang in the drying loft for eleven days — no heaters, just the weather doing its patient work — then take a bath of gelatin so ink sits up on the surface instead of wicking through it. That’s why a wet fountain pen won’t feather on our 120: the sheet was sized for it, three generations before your pen was made.

No baskets, no accounts, no urgency banners. Tell us what you want and how many; we wrap it in kraft, tie it with string, and the till prints you an honest total. Orders leave the mill on Thursdays, when the post van comes up the lane.
