Formwork Pictures Presents MMXXVI

A manifesto in five acts

The Award

The prize was never the point. The work is.

Act One — The First Temptation

Anyone can decorate.

Ornament is the first instinct, and the first thing to cut. A gradient is not a decision. A drop shadow is not a point of view.

Act Two — The Invisible Discipline

Almost no one can compose.

Composition is the quiet art of what you withhold: where the eye is allowed to rest, and how the silence around a thing is shaped.

Act Three — Grammar in Motion

Motion is meaning.

The way a thing moves tells you what it is before a single word is read. An easing curve is a sentence — time it like you mean it.

Act Four — The Only Currency

Attention is the budget.

You spend someone's seconds — the one currency that never comes back. Spend them as though they were the last they would be given.

Act Five — The Verdict

The work is the award.

Trophies tarnish and shortlists are forgotten. The craft is the prize — handed only to whoever made the thing well.
